Happy Black Friday!!!

No big box stores for me, anymore. I may go out to my local quilt shop later, they are having a 30% off sale all week. Go out for coffee?? Sounds good!!

Here is a great site that I really like - there are lots of free patterns for bags on here, it can keep you busy for quite a while:

I am going to make a few for my nieces! Enjoy!!

And our semi-famous ice cream cake!!

Ingredients for smaller cake:

Pie dish
3 cups crushed corn flakes
One stick melted butter
One cup brown sugar
One container vanilla ice cream
One cup coconut (I never use this)

Mix the three cups corn flakes after you crush them with the melted butter and brown sugar. Soften a container of the store brand ice cream - for some reason, this cake tastes better with the cheaper ice cream! Put 2/3 of the corn flake mixture on the bottom and sides of the pie dish. Put softened ice cream and cover with the remaining 1/3 of the corn flake mixture. Cover and freeze overnight, and serve with chocolate syrup.

Often, I double the recipe and I make it in a 9 by 12 inch pan. I use vanilla ice cream on one half, and the chocolate on the other side. Yummy!!!

Enjoy your Turkey Day!

Modern Table Runner Project for Holiday Baskets for the Needy

This holiday season, we have a lot of people in need. I work for a school district that collects food and gifts for those in need during the holiday season. I thought how nice it would be to include a lovely modern table runner in the baskets for the needy. If you would like to participate, please let me know, and add a comment below. The deadline for this is December 15th, so I can get the table runners to the woman who arranges the baskets! No rules, just make a table runner with your heart. Thank you!

One Day Until the Drawing for the Terrain Fabric!!!

Today, I was working on napkins. I thought I might try the napkins were on a tutorial on the blog Film in the Fridge. Being less than a perfectionist, I cut my fabrics and realized that I didn't have enough white!! So I improvised and used black. So now I have 6 napkins, which don't match!! Luckily, I don't really mind, as I love the fabrics so much, they make me smile anyway. I used Classic Solid Grey and Joel Dewberry's Aviary for these little treasures!!

Working on new modern quilt

Actually, it isn't really a new quilt, only parts of it are new. I got the 9 patches at an auction last year. A 94 year old woman made a lot of pieces that she didn't put together. These were part of the lot. I am free motion quilting it with my Janome 6300, a great machine!!!

We are officially open to new members!!

If you have any interest in being a part of our Adirondack Modern Quilt Guild, please comment below and we will get you enrolled!! I am very excited to be a part of this wonderful group that creates such breathtaking and modern quilts!!

Ordered some more Joel Dewberry fabrics!!

I couldn't help myself, I ordered some more Joel Dewberry fabrics for another quilt!! I want to keep this one for myself. I love that greyish/yellow and black combination. It is unusual, because it is soothing and contemporary at the same time. I might actually cover a sofa in that if I can get some on sale.

Going to work on a modern quilt tonight - I have to finish up Christmas presents, but I am itching to use my new Kate Spain Terrain fabrics, along with some Kona grey I just bought. I have a million ideas in my head, trying to get it down to a few. Yikes!!

I am going to post a Giveaway of some fabrics this week. If anyone is out there, stay tuned!!

Just finished this one - it had to be perfect!!

I am donating this to the Sarcoma Alliance for their fundraiser in January. They raise money for people who have sarcomas (cancer) to get second opinions or travel for treatment. The cancer is so rare that people often need to go to cancer research centers, such as Sloan Kettering or MD Anderson in Texas, for treatment.

Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry

I am in LOVE with Amy Butler and Joel Dewberry's yellow and grey fabrics!! Butler's Midwest Modern is luscious and Dewberry's Aviary 2 is absolutely gorgeous!! I have been quilting for almost two years, and when I first started, I didn't buy quality fabrics. I didn't buy at WalMart (I boycott WalMart!) but I bought at a big chain store which shall remain nameless. I always went for the batiks and now that I find other fabrics in patterns that have a wonderful feel, I know why the batiks were the only ones I liked!! "Hand" is very important to me. It even makes the sewing more fun, when the fabric feels so wonderful under your fingers!!

Today - I am going to quilt a small lap quilt that I put together from 9 patches I bought at an auction last year. Here it is un-quilted, and I hope to finish it today!! Also, I am going to put the binding on a quilt I made for charity, the Sarcoma Alliance. Sarcoma is a rare cancer that a family member has - I want to help in some way, and this is the best way I know how.

Just finished this for my niece!!

I have been working on this for a while. I had it pieced, but had to quilt it and then, bane of my existence, bind it!! Groan!!! I did it twice. I need a friend to bind for me.

Just starting to sell some quilts on my etsy store that I have with my talented friend, Kathy. She can do everything: quilt, sew, paint, stained glass. She is a true artist and she is going to be starting a labryinth quilt for her son for Christmas.

Enjoy the warm weather, northeasterners!!!
